Educational Prepared

Education is a crucial element in preparing individuals for the 21st century. Much has been said about our educational system – some suggest the system is extremely effective and efficient while others advocate the educational system is lacking. As an adjunct professor, I propose that there are areas such as writing and critical thinking, generally is seriously deficient. What are your thoughts?

Life - More than Self

If you were asked - “what one thing good thing did you do for someone today” what would be your response. On the other hand, if you cannot think of anything – why not stop now and list how you have benefited from others. So you went to the store –

  • You adorned clothes made by someone other than yourself
  • You manned a vehicle assembled by someone other than yourself
  • You traveled on a street constructed by others
  • You shopped in the store, which was stocked by someone else, and not you
  • You purchased items that were even placed in a bag by someone

So, we don’t live in a world by ourselves – we need others and others need us. So what good thing will you do for someone today?

I will contribute to the many hungry children. Check out the website – Feed the Children.

Wow - What a Great Privilege

Most Americans proudly acclaim America as the best sovereign country on earth yet many Americans fail to honor one of our greatest privileges – voting. Reasons may vary as to the specific rationale for not voting but the reality is, we are a country ‘governed by the people for the people.’ Your vote does count; therefore as an American please accept the challenge to vote for the individual of your choice. William Wilberforce - A force in Change

A delightful reading - A Journey Through the Life of William Wilberforce (2007) by Kevin Belmonte. Kevin Belmonte does a superb job of sharing the history of the great abolitionist who changed the face of a nation and had one of the greatest impact on the betterment of the world. According to Mr. Belmonte, William Wilberforce was "one of the greats souls of history" (p.6).

For me, this book, is a reminder that it one committed individual can make a difference. We can be that catalyst in our home, schools, community and even the business community. All it takes is a our willingness to stand for what is good and right.

Right Makes Might

In Right Makes Might: Reviving Ethics to Improve Your Business, readers catch a timely glimpse of the pervasive, troubling environment overtaking the business community. The book explores the lack of common sense and respect for others and the willingness of corporations and individuals to knowingly engage in unethical practices such as embezzlements, and cheating. As a result of these practices society and the business community pay a tremendous price. This book, unlike many others published volumes that debate, admonish or even disregard business ethics, offers a workable remedy to combat the erosion that taints our business environment.

A must read for business leaders and academicians.

Who Am I

Who Am I? Answering that question requires deep soul-searching, which most likely would not be interesting, instead I will pass on who I think I am. After all this blog (interesting 21st century word) is about sharing, stimulating, stirring, shaping and sensitizing. Having potentially captured the intent of the blog, perhaps now I can give you some insight into Dorothea.

After many years (too many to mention) I finally recognized and silently admitted I was an energetic Nerd. I enjoy reading, learning and accomplishing some defined end. Because of this never-ending quest to contribute to the betterment of society, I have engaged in a number of exciting career ventures - author, business professor, realtor, and former business executive turned entrepreneur.

A significant milestone in my life was the publication of Right Makes Might: Reviving Ethics to Improve Your Business (2007). The book reflects my passion for the business community. It gave me a setting to address compelling questions about unethical behavior and its impact on the business community as well as society. But more importantly writing the book provided an excellent opportunity to explore a remedy for the much-publicized moral decay.

While Right Make Might (2007) afforded me a venue to openly focus on a very serious topic, the proliferation of unethical behavior, I do have a lighter side, even sometimes humorous. This lighter side came out in Three Women: One Dream (2008), which was co-authored with two other women. Attempting to show-off our humor even in the most difficult times, individually we tell our stories of overcoming to achieve our dream.

The best is always saved for last – family and faith. I can live with faith without family but I cannot live with family without faith. Aside from enjoying the fullness of family serving the Lord is my greatest joy. This is where my fullness is completed.
